It has to be Paris and Tokyo — their uncompromising levels of aesthetic sensibility and quality, in all facets from design, to food, to dressing and especially the detail in packaging. What uplifts me is nature, especially the colours and romance of autumn. What moves me is multi-disciplinary art, architecture and books, or at least, collecting them.
Travelling is part of the process of inspiration, and I do travel quite a bit to source for materials and for market research. I am insistent on using high quality materials for Reverie. Anyone who wears jewellery often can see and feel the difference in chains and charms, for example.
Virtually all our chains, links and gorgeous cabochons are from Paris and Tokyo. For instance, the brass chains from our Spiral range are made by French artisans, while the other charms/pendants such as frog, cherry, heart, are limited editions from Tokyo. The other place which I rely on for gold-fill ear studs, clasps, quirky pewter charms and stainless steel parts is the US. Materials aside, my favorite part is designing.
I love to design because the ideas, the possibilities are endless. It’s like playing with Lego, experimenting with different shapes, size, colours, metal, fabric, chain and coming up with different products.
Designing, especially for necklaces, can take a very long time. There are many ways to perceive things, not to mention mixing and matching to achieve the ideal look, and so, it can go on for weeks. Earlier, I shared my sources of inspiration. I’m not sure if this inspires me, but it delights me to no end to have amazingly good food and gorgeous dresses!
